So, one might think that the Cape Wind Project (to build a wind farm in Nantucket Sound) might be back on track.
But, no.
It appears that, in addition to the Tedulous Tacking and Kennedyesque Keelhauling that went on there when Ted Kennedy was emulating an overinflated diving buoy rolling about on the deck of a yacht, a pristine Nantucket Sound is also an essential element for Wampanoag sun greetings. The windmills could be construed as, say, a “wall of separation”. And nobody, absolutely nobody, wants a “wall of separation” between government decisions and religious beliefs. Unless, of course, those religious beliefs come from the Judæo-Christian hegemonic white male antifeminist political oppression cult.
The Wampanoags, who were officially recognized as an actual Indian tribe in May, 2007, are also partnering with Arkana Limited, an investor based in the Ancient Native American tribal grounds known today as Malaysia, to erect a temple:
The Mashpee Wampanoag tribal council announced Sunday it is working with a new partner, Arkana Limited, a wholly-owned affiliate of the Kien Huat affiliates in Malaysia, collectively known as Genting. The investment company is owned by a Lim family trust, which has cash reserves of over $3 billion.
Wampanaug religious practices have historically been shrouded in mystery and glimpses into the rites and practices have been revealed only as necessary to support legal proceedings. Some running-dog white people who study the ancient 3-year old tribe speculate that modern games, known today as blackjack and roulette, may have their roots in traditional Wampanaug sacrificial practices. These practices are focused on the Wampanaug’s major deity, the Almighty Dollar (traditionally, Wampum or Wampan, hence the name Wampan-Hawg or Wampanaug), and the legendary First Wampanaug, known as One-Armed Bandit, who ran off with the demigod changelings spawned by A. Dollar and known as Nickel, Dime, and Quarter.
The Wampanoag Tribe’s traditionally-named Heap Big Chief, Cedric Cromwell (which translates as “Sharp-Eyed Buzzard” in English), argues that the original Happy Hunting Grounds of the Dollar-worshipers were originally offshore:
Indian tribes say Horseshoe Shoal, an area in Nantucket Sound where a wind farm is planned, is sacred ground…
The tribes say archaeological evidence suggests the shoal, once above water, was used by their ancestors for hunting and fishing and may also have been a burial site. They say disrupting the horizon with 130 wind turbines would disturb their spiritual practices.
I would hate to see the traditional, sacred religious rights of any Native Americans trampled upon by America’s energy needs and the dominant religion of Gaia-worship and 12-Step Spiritual Renewability and Sustainability. To clarify and emphasize my point about the sacred nature of traditional rites, here’s a surreptitious photo of a worshiper in the act of making a sacrifice:
Touching, is it not?
Hilarious! It’s a harmonic convergence of dingbat lefty causes!
This is an epic article, I will be adding you to my list.
